Alex Ramsay

work by Alex Ramsay

Alex established her workshop in 2002, and has won numerous awards for her silverware and exhibited widely

Her work is enjoying an increasingly high profile and recognition with exhibitions including The Goldsmiths Fair, ORIGIN at Somerset House and British Silver Week. 2009 is looking to be an exciting year with exhibitions including COLLECT 2009, at the new Saatchi Gallery, London, The International Glass and Silver Exhibition at Lesley Craze Gallery and Silver with a Pinch of Salt, at Goldsmiths Hall

In July Alex and her work were featured in a film about the Hackney 2012 Olympic host borough. The Mayor of Hackney purchased one of Alex’s glass bowls and a silver spoon to present to the Mayor of Haidien Province, Beijing

Alex specialises in contemporary tableware, combining silver with other materials such as glass and felt. She undertakes a variety of work to commission, producing one off pieces for exhibition, and producing her collections using small batch production techniques

Alex’s most recent pieces in fine silver are a development of her blown glass and silverware, where she aims to represent the glass surface in negative as a pierced pattern in the silver. These ideas reference the beauty of silver nitrate photography – of positive and negative. See Commissions section
