Black Dog of Wells

The Black Dog of Wells studio workshop is situated in the heart of the beautiful City of Wells, Somerset. We create and market a unique range of intricate handcrafted bas relief tiles in natural terracotta which are full of detail and texture. These wall tiles are designed by prominent artist/designer Philippa Threlfall, who for many years has been making decorative tiles and ceramic murals which can be seen all over the country.

All our wall plaque designs are based on traditional and historical imagery, from Roman through to Victorian times and the present day. Many incorporate pithy texts, blessings and quotations well known historical figures from Horace through to Dr Johnson and William Morris.

Our decorative wall plaques are collected by many people. They make unusual and thoughtful Christmas, birthday and anniversary presents. With over 120 designs in our range, we may just have the perfect gift for home owners, cat and dog lovers, gardeners, musicians and foodies.

As we make such a unique product we are often asked where our tiles can be displayed?
The answer is for wall decor both inside and out: in a frame, on a beam, on or over a door, kitchen splash back, around a cooker or Aga, in a porch, conservatory, gardens, built into risers of steps, patio/courtyard wall, just to name a few!

Each design costs £13-50 including P&P for UK customers.
