Brian grew up on a farm in mid-Worcestershire, and started out adult life by studying Fine Art and Sculpture at Art College. This gave him a keen interest in exploring the tactile qualities of materials, and a passion for good contemporary design.
His work is characterised by clean lines and an absence of superfluous detail; above all, the criteria are fitness for purpose and soundness of construction. Brian believes that a good working relationship with his clients is an essential starting point, and enjoys finding novel and interesting solutions to design problems. Many of his clients have used his skills for a number of years, and in several cases have almost filled their houses with his furniture.
Private and Public commissions are taken on, a recent piece being made for Great Malvern Priory, and work is exhibited at major venues, including ‘Art in Action’, ‘Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design’ at Cheltenham, and ‘Gorgeous’ at Ironbridge. He has also shown work outside the UK, notably at the British Embassy in Helsinki.
Recent work involves exploring lamination techniques, and incorporating influences from landscape and nature into design.
Brian’s other interests(hobbies is not an adequate description) are 2 & 3 dimensional art, music - he plays modern jazz trumpet in clubs around the midland area, and food, both cooking and consumption.
