Bridget Bailey

Bailey Tomlin
The work - “Couture millinery skills and cutting-edge textile techniques, combined with a passion for nature, create infinitely wearable accessories and collectable artworks that are daringly surreal, with a strong sense of play.” Rob Cassy, Journalist

The business - Since 1984, Bridget has designed and produced collections for Jean Muir, Mulberry, Caroline Charles, Mitsukoshi, Saks Fifth Avenue and the V&A. Her creations have been bought by people from Margaret Thatcher and the Duchess of Devonshire to Donna Air.
Bailey Tomlin’s collections have been shown at exhibitions ranging from Origin and Art in Action, to London Fashion Week and the World Cup Millinery Exhibition in Dubai.

Specialist skills and materials - Straw, sinamy silk and leather are worked using the following techniques:
Dyeing and hand painting, embossing, fabric manipulation and hand rolling straw and sinamay. These techniques transform traditional textile and millinery materials into delicate and unexpected pieces. This way of designing and making is important to Bridget because it keeps her craft sophisticated, innovative and inspiring.

Workshops - Bridget share’s her skills and experience offering classes at West Dean, Kensington and Chelsea, and Morley College. She also offers one to one master classes at her studio.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 127 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
