Clare Gage

work by Clare Gage

My work is a fusion of ceramic and textiles. The textures and techniques of
weave and stitch are brought together through the production of beautiful
ceramic pieces.

My final year degree work was recognised by the Royal Society for the
Encouragement of Art, Manufacture and Commerce and I was awarded the 2007
Design Directions: Ceramic Futures Award and made a fellow of the RSA. After
graduating from Cumbria Institute of the Arts with a first class degree in
Contemporary Applied Arts I now work from my studio in Chesterfield,
Derbyshire.

About my work:
I begin with fabric that I hand weave. This fabric is then used to make
fabric cups that are then created in porcelain.  My range includes a
collection of cups, plates, bowls and a selection of vases.
