Contemporary, unique, handbuilt, stoneware ceramics.
I create simple shapes, inspired by forms and patterns found in nature. Each piece is handbuilt using both coiled and slabbed techniques. Textures are created using applied, incised, pierced or impressed methods combined with a limited palette of oxides and stoneware glazes which emphasis both form and feature.
A mixture of smooth bodied and crank stoneware clays are used, with the addition of paper clay where extra strength or fine detail is needed.
Most work is fired several times until the required effect is achieved, the final firing at 1250C in an electric kiln.
A continuously experimental approach results in a unique selection of contemporary ceramics.
My first opportunity to work with clay came about whilst following an art course at Teacher Training College.
After almost thirty years of sharing my enthusiasm with literally thousands of students, I now have the time to develop my own designs.
Teaching has left me with a wealth of ideas which have resulted in a varied assortment of work.
