  Selected Makers

Diana Morrison

Diana originally trained in Fashion and Printed Textiles at the University of Gloucestershire and Manchester Metropolitan University. She then worked as a designer in industry and taught Fashion, Textiles and Fine Art at Further Education level.

She has explored many aspects of Textiles in her own work over the years but has always been fascinated with contrasting colour and textures, which have been elemental to her practice.

Always desiring to grow and evolve, Diana is currently working with hand dyed silks, which she combines with  a range of hand dyed fibres using experimental felt making techniques to produce sculpturally formed art pieces to wear. Each piece is individually designed to form a unique garment or accessory. Design details are focussed and clarified with the embellishment of hand and machine stitching.

Diana's work is currently influenced by observation of surface pattern and texture within the landscape and seashore and living near to the coast, she is able to study the constantly evolving micro climate of the shoreline and the fantastic colours, shapes and forms of the skies of the Fylde coast.

She is also inspired by designers and artists who utilise vibrant, unusual and evocative colour in their work, such as Bonnard, Matisse and Zandra Rhodes.

The more experimental ranges are complemented by a range of more commercial but still innovative variety of applique and embroidered fashion accessories using a variety of co-ordinating prints.

Diana shows her work at selected galleries and at quality retail events throughout the country and welcomes commissions and trade enquiries.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 6 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
