My collection of jewellery brings together domestic crafts skills that have been handed down from generation to generation and modern jewellery making techniques. I transform my hand crocheted cotton and lace designs into silver pieces of jewellery, thus preserving them forever.
For over a year now I have been working with the theme of ‘New Domesticity’. This theme of preserving domestic craft skills and the preciousness of home life is a big influence on my work. The crochet techniques that I use in my work were taught to me by my mother, and the lace making techniques were learned on a lace-making course in The Mull of Kintyre.
I enjoy combining the more traditional textile pieces with quirky home imagery and colourful elements of enameled metal and precious stones.
