After starting life in a scientific career (BSc. Dip Ed, MPhil), I changed in 1991 and since have become a glass artist –architectural and sculptural-, opening my own Studio in 2000.
I took an Open College of the Arts course at Leith School of Art. I also followed several glass courses including two master classes in Northlands Creative Glass Studios.
I usually work to commission and for exhibitions, but I also have a varying teaching commitment. My work involves traditional leading technique, sandblasting and kiln-formed sculpture. The leaded work can incorporate found pieces and ones that are painted, fused, sandblasted or etched.
The inspiration that lead me into a biological career originally, I now explore through line and form in my glasswork. The natural world is my greatest inspiration.
I work mostly to private commissions, but I have made 4 panels for Bar Habana, Edinburgh, a window for ‘Famous grouse’ Glenturret Distillery, Crief, two golf trophies for an Inverness Golf Club, 9 windows for Balerno Parish Church and 8 metal and glass panels for Inverkeithing Civic Centre, with the help of a metal worker.
I exhibit annually with the Scottish Glass Society, but also at several other galleries. My solo glass exhibitions include Falkirk Park Gallery, Harbour Gallery, Port Seton, Peter Potter Gallery, Haddington and the Royal Lyceum theatre, Edinburgh.
