Ema Kelly

Helix bead by Ema Kelly

Ema Kelly combines her lampworked glass pieces with precious metal clay and fine silver work to create unique jewellery designs with a twist.

Quickly building a name for herself as a talented young glass maker and designer, Ema has showcased her work in numerous exhibitions around the UK and internationally and has demonstrated her lampworking skills at such events as Art in Action.  She has assisted other well known artists from around the world in their lampworking Master Classes and currently teaches her own across the Midlands.

During her degree at DeMontfort University, Leicester, she was able to gain skills in many other materials such as metal, ceramics, and textiles.  However her true passion has always lain in glass making.  A material unlike any other, this solid liquid had her attention from the first time she tried her hand at glass blowing.  This then lead to her specialising in hot glass making techniques throughout her time at University and then on to the International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, creating unconventional pieces with a flair for innovative design.

Inspired by her mood and surroundings, Ema’s contemporary designs sway from quirky to elegant, all the time illustrating the tactile fluidity of the material.  The creation of these small scale works of art enables Ema to combine precision timing with her understanding of the nature of the material and intimate knowledge of temperature control.
‘I love to create pieces that make people smile and that can brighten up a day.'
