Ema Kelly combines her lampworked glass pieces with sterling silver work to create unique jewellery and ornamental designs with a playful twist.
Having made a name for herself as a talented young glass maker and designer, Ema has showcased her work and demonstrated her techniques at numerous events and exhibitions around the UK and internationally including Art in Action. She also teaches lampworking classes at her studio in Leicester, where students are encouraged to explore their creativity using this captivating material.
Now with over 7 years experience Ema has gained skills in many other materials such as metal, ceramics, and textiles. However her true passion has always been glass making. A material unlike any other, this solid liquid had her attention from the first time she tried her hand at glass blowing. This then lead to her specialising in hot glass making techniques throughout her time at University and then on to the International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, creating unconventional pieces with a flair for innovative design.
Inspired by her surroundings and character, Ema’s contemporary designs sway from quirky to elegant, all the time illustrating the tactile fluidity of the material. Creating these small scale works of art enables her to combine precision timing and intimate knowledge of temperature control, whilst keeping true to the nature of the material.
‘I love to create pieces that make people smile and that can brighten up a day.’
Award winning Ema has also been recognised by the Princes Trust and Creative Leicestershire, enabling her to develop and expand her creativity and ranges. Trading as Duck in a Bucket Designs, Ema’s work is available through her online store as well as selected outlets throughout the UK and Europe.
