Emily’s main source of inspiration has come from the stunning colours and patterns in the clothes worn by African tribes. This has developed to a more personal level, looking at the idea of tribes in today’s society, the way families and friends are tribes and come together as one. Emily is also strongly inspired by repetitive shapes and colours within nature and uses elements of this in her work.
Working in silver, with vitreous coloured enamels, Emily achieves a high quality brightness echoing the tribal outfits, using a kiln to set the enamel. The tinkling sounds that these enamelled silver parts create, along with the movement and colour adds a playful quality to each piece.
Emily’s newest range uses the technical skills of stone setting. She uses small cut stones, to suggest a spot of colour and sparkle. This range has a more simplistic feel to it aesthetically, still keeping hold of the sophistication in Emily’s work.
