Jane Ballard produces contemporary fused glass designs in her Herefordshire studio using high quality art glass. The range includes jewellery, bowls, splashbacks and panels.
Every product consists of two or more layers of glass, kiln-fired several times to achieve the desired result. Each combination of glass 'suggests' a style, Jane brings that style to life and gives it a little extra. Using compatible fusing glass, Jane adds unusual elements of water-cut and dichroic shapes. She also fuses pattern bars and forms glass by the aperture pour method.
Jane has lived in four countries and her inspiration comes from those diverse landscapes, architecture and cultures. Her art education started with sculpture and drawing, later, living in New England, Jane studied stained glass with Boston artist, Carolyn Stock.
On returning to the UK, interest in her work grew through commissions and gallery sales.
Four years ago, Jane came to Leominster and set up a studio where her passion for glass could develop - to broaden her experience she took several master classes with international glass artist Jayne Persico - known for innovative techniques in warm glass.
She studied lampworking (glass beads) with Barbara Mason; also silver work techniques to add further dimension to her warm glass jewellery.
In addition to individual commissions and sales on her website, Jane offers year-round courses in:
