'Contained Freedom' - glass sculpture by Fiaz Elson

Experience shapes and forms who we are. Consciously or unconsciously our personalities reveal or keep hidden our many sides. This concept is expressed through the use of curves and angles, space, colour and form in glass.

The designs are born from shaping, cutting, re-arranging and separating. Each piece is created in an organic process using clay, polystyrene, wax and plaster. These simple, minimal objects are made using the lost wax and open mould kiln casting process.

Once the glass is molten and cast into the refractory moulds, the pieces are brought to life with various cold working techniques from cutting wheels and grinding to sandblasting and air tool polishing.

Each piece has a relationship with the interior and exterior structure, bending, distorting and refracting light creating a dynamic between colour, form and space.
