Geoff Hague

Geoff trained as an architect, however, in 1993 he decided to start his knife making business to fulfill a long held ambition.  Now, with years of critical self-tuition and exploration to develop his craft and style in a continuing process, he enjoys using his design ability and an eye for proportion and detail to make high quality functional as well as visually satisfying personal cutting tools.

Working on his own in a small workshop Geoff designs and makes each knife from start to finish.  The work is executed using simple hand tools and basic equipment to achieve a high standard of craftsmanship with exacting tolerances in the making of each knife.  Every piece, whether a folding pocket knife or a fixed blade knife, starts with materials in their basic, unshaped and unfinished form. Each material has its own special attributes whether it is a piece of delicately patterned steel, coloured mammoth ivory, uniquely grained wood, or any of the numerous beautiful materials selectively sourced from all over the world.  Patience, care and self-taught craftsmanship transform these materials into the many individual parts needed to build fine, sought after knives which are used and collected internationally.  He is not bound by a fixed pattern book preferring to approach each new project, whether it is a commission or a piece for a show, as a new and unique experience with its own form to develop.

Over the years Geoff has established a reputation as one of the UK’s leading custom knife makers combining flowing form with interesting materials to create aesthetically pleasing and tactile knives.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 85 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
