In 1990 George set up his pottery in Newcastle upon Tyne. Since then he has been supplying Shops and Galleries, predominantly in the North of England and Scotland, but also in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, with work in many exhibitions nationwide.
His work has colour and glaze reaction as a major theme but is also concerned with texture and shape. Much of his inspiration is taken from the architecture of the Middle East and the glass of the 1920's. The vessels all have their roots in functionality but some have been modified to give more exciting and dynamic shapes.
George's new work is retro in design, with childhood memories reflected in the glowing slightly translucent yellow, like sunlight and the pattern in greens and blacks flowing in the rivers of glaze.
Hand thrown from porcelain clay, the work is painted with coloured slips and then glazed with transparent, a number of green glazes and a matt black. The glazes are applied on top of layers of latex and wax resist to create the patterning, and then fired to approximately 1300C in a gas kiln, at which point the glazes are just starting to flow.
