Gerda Kloos qualified and worked as a teacher of arts and crafts in The Netherlands. Based in England since 1988, she now specialises in contemporary jewellery. For her latest collection, which uses sterling silver, semi-precious gemstone beads and freshwater pearls, she has designed and made seven different items: a necklace, two pendants, two bracelets and two different designs of earrings.
Basic square, round and triangle shapes for the silver are enhanced with three different textures: sand, lines and hammered. Texture is also achieved by mixing different shapes and sizes of beads. Colour plays an important role too. Semi-precious gemstones come in many colours and colour combinations are a significant aspect of the designs. Over fifty different gemstone beads in twelve colour ranges give a huge variety: more than 500 different combinations of item, shape, texture and colour are available. Everything is handmade to order with retail prices ranging from about £20 to £95. Gerda's jewellery is already worn by women of all ages and appeals to a wide market. Her work is stocked by UK galleries and shops specialising in contemporary jewellery.
Commissions for custom-made one-offs are welcome. For example, a matching service is available. To use this service, please supply a swatch of fabric or other colour sample and every effort will be made to create the required jewellery using gemstones in appropriate colours. The jewellery can also be made with your choice of gemstone combinations.
