In my studio here in Tenterden, Kent, I design and make silver jewellery.
In April (2007) I decided to turn a passion into a business 'Silver Originals', offering a bespoke and hire service.
Using the purest fine silver, I like to weave/knit or crochet.
The finest silver I've found is just 0.03mm, finer than human hair!
Sterling silver is used occasionally as well as fine gold and
Occasionally I'll include semi precious stones.
The tools I use are varied ranging from the usual knitting and crochet needles to cotton reels and temporary handmade 'mini looms'. Silversmiths' tools are also used. The types of mandrels used for forming can also be many, like doweling, fingers and anything else that suggests useful shapes.
My style of work concentrates on being unusual and unique aiming to appeal to the individual who chooses to break the mould.
I am influenced by a myriad of things, something as subtle as a smell that is evocative of a moment in childhood. Historical costumes, reflections, anything that catches my eye including of course Mother Nature in all her glory.
I've exhibited in galleries and wearable art exhibitions in Joel Arnstein's West End House Gallery in Smarden, Kent and plan to try further a field when time allows.
When working on a new piece, I prefer to let it evolve and take me with it. Alternatively I like to encourage the prospective wearer to delve deep into their creative psyche, making it more precious to them.
My range focuses on neckpieces, bracelets, brooches, chokers, earrings and hair decorations including tiaras.
Silver Originals is a one man band ensuring that everyone has the personal attention they expect and desire.
