  Selected Makers

Guergana Sabkova

My work is inspired by my home land- Bulgaria, my surroundings, by  nature, by the relationships between us. Often I follow the undefined path of the image to reveal itself,  almost like a light in the darkness, the image is born.

I am fascinated by the coexistence of the different images as one whole body, just like in every micro or macro universe. Mixing the components of the mosaic creates a whole new vision. From one image evolves another and yet they all coexist in a parallel  reality in a perfect harmony.

I  search for perfection. Impossible yet inspiring necessity to throw my self in such an unknown adventure in space and time, where the image becomes the ocean of my deep diving experience of exhaustion  and self discovery. I  combine in my work the freedom of the abstract with the precision of the well defined details, incorporating different techniques predominantly in kiln forming, fusing, drill engraving and sandblasting.

I make my pieces by fusing  different colours of glass, often my attraction to sculpture influences  my work and I deep carve and  engrave the glass to create  three-dimensional  images.

I have my own studio in Northamptonshire and I regularly take part in trade and retail shows and exhibitions.

I am a  Craft member of the Guild of Glass Engravers, member of the Contemporary Glass Society and  the National Association of Jewellers.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 2 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
