Helen Slater

Based in Oxfordshire, Helen Slater's Art draws inspiration from the figurative form and its perception within changing environments. By using a mixture of techniques similar to those used in bronze casting and some specially developed by Helen herself, through years of research, she is able to produce stunning one off Art pieces. These unique glass pieces vary in scale from dramatic life size figures, to be displayed outdoors, to delicate tabletop casts for interiors.

These pieces are part of a larger series of works addressing our associations with the environment, the home, our surroundings and the places we visit and have an impact on. They reference a narrative that can be read as personal or generic, to which the viewer can bring their own associations.

Each one-off piece of glass is hand modelled; cast and polished giving each work a precious quiet elegance. These pieces all have a narrative association, suggesting the feelings and resonance of a particular place or setting which has been captured within the glass, giveing them the airy ethereal quality of memories past.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 85 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
