Helen Tiley

work by Helen Tiley

Helen Tiley lives and works in Cornwall. She graduated from Falmouth College of Arts with a BA(Hons) in Studio Ceramics in 2005.

Her ceramics are an expression of the creatures of our imagination. Telling stories with a sense of stillness, escapism and humour, interwoven with images of circuses and fairytales, fairgrounds and childhood.

Each piece is individually hand built, using slab, coiling and scuptural techniques in ungrogged white earthenware clay. Which is then fired at traditionaly low temperatures. Ready prepared and 'own recipe' slips are used to decorate the pieces. They are then clear glazed, and finished with lustres, and in some cases with on glaze colours. This process makes each piece unique but continues a coherent contextual theme throughout her work.
