In her current collection, Jane hand-embroiders wood veneer using a selection of vibrantly coloured threads to create stunning lampshades, framed artwork and accessories. For precision Jane laser cuts her elaborate patterns, allowing her to create the intricacy needed for the delicate threadwork.
Jane studied 3D Design at University and specialised in woodwork, a material that she remains passionate about.
‘The combination of wood and lighting is perfect, it is wonderful to see the depth of colour and patternation of the grain glowing through’ After graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006, Jane gained a place on the Design Initiatives 06-08 ‘Setting Up Scheme’, allowing her to follow her dream and transform her ideas into a fully functioning business.
Jane now has a successful shop/studio in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre and stocks many galleries and independent boutiques in the UK. Being based in the Northern Quarter, one of the most diverse and up-and coming areas of Manchester, Jane is surrounded by inspiration on a daily basis. She also loves walks in the countryside and takes inspiration from the natural world.
In Summer 2010, Jane was hand-picked by executives at Manchester airport to create 22 pieces of artwork for the ‘Escape’ lounge in T1. The embroidered artworks cover 12 metres of wall space and are the focal point of the contemporary ‘snug’ area. In April 2011, Jane took part in the British Craft Trade Fair, where she received an award for excellence.
