Jane Dorner

Blue tipped egg - pate de verre / soda glass (14x18cm) by Jane Dorner

Jane Dorner uses colour in glass as a medium for painting in light. She makes free-standing sculptural pieces and wall-mounted structures for modern interior settings. All work is blown. Some use cutting techniques to explore optical illusions, while others celebrate gestures in colour.

Jane has developed an innovative technique. She makes an embryo form in pâte de verre. This an ancient technique going back to the Egyptians and revived in the 19th century by art nouveau artists. Jane’s work is entirely in the modern idiom. She ‘paints’ into a mould with finely crushed glass mixed with a binding material to create a paste. This is fired to fuse the glass. It is then removed from the mould, heated up again, picked up on a bubble of hot
glass and fired in.

She was appointed Editor of Glass Circle News and elected as a Brother of the ArtWorkers’ Guild in January 2010.
