Blown Glass by Janey Pointing

Contemporary Blown Glass
Born in Sussex in 1978, Janey returned to college in her late twenties to pursue her love of Applied Arts, and all things sculptural. Janey has recently graduated with a BA (Honours) Applied Arts degree from Plymouth College of Art having specialised in blown glass, after discovering this was her passion early on in the first year.

My latest body of work is focussed around creating contemporary sculptural vessels using traditional glassmaking skills. The sphere for me represents many things; it is worldly, tactile and has a beautiful purity within its form. I hope to evoke a feeling of space and movement within my pieces. My inspiration has been largely drawn from images of the earth, the moon and planetary alignment, as I have a keen interest in the ancient folklore surrounding myths about the moon, and how it affects our everyday lives. The many fascinating optical qualities of glass, combined with the beauty from a subtle use of colour constantly inspire me to create and develop my own individual style within my glass pieces.
