Joanne Gowan

Joanne Gowan designs and hand makes fine precious jewellery with most of her work being one-off designs and individual commissions. The style of work is often distinctly organic with twisting and dramatic shapes as well as many timeless and classic items. A wide range of techniques are used to create individual and unique pieces : repousse, forging, stone mounting, piercing, casting and hand construction. Pieces range from simple & contemporary  to historical & representational. Platinum, Palladium, 18ct gold and silver are all used with great skill: with the addition diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies , unusual gemstones or cultured pearls.  Diamonds and gemstones are ethically sourced .

Joanne has been a full time designer jeweller for nearly 30 years after studying for a Jewellery BA Degree  at Central School of Art and Design. She also has the Theory of Gemmology certificate from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Joanne takes part in occassional high quality jewellery and design shows throughgout the country but concentrates on bespoke commissions at her shop premises.

Joanne’s workshop is within her own retail premises, Gowan Jewellers, which she opened in 1988  in the picturesque small town of Sawbridgeworth on the Hertfordshire / Essex border. The shop has been recently refitted with a consultation area.  Choose from a wide range of jewellery in stock or make a no obligation appointment with Joanne to discuss a bespoke piece.  Gowan Jewellers offers valuations, a free cleaning service and friendly professional advice.  Joanne's aim is to make jewellery which expresses the wearer's own personality and which gives pleasure on each occasion that it is worn. Joanne is happy to encorporate the clients own ideas and themes to create a truely individual piece to suit their budget.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 2 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
