work by Jo Clarke

I originally trained and worked as a graphic designer before developing an interest in textiles, firstly in knitted construction techniques, which I then went on to teach in adult education, then in surface decoration using silk as the main ground.

My preferred method of working is to use a plain white even weave silk along with a resist to create an outline. This method of resist line with direct application of paint gives a clean, bright defined image on the silk. The painted silk pieces are then used to make cotton lined tea cosies, lavender bags, gift bags and silk faced sketchbooks and note books. I am currently developing my 'Animals' range which appeals to children and adults alike.

I am a member of the Norfolk Craft Guild, exhibiting twice a year with them in the historic setting of the Loft Gallery at Blickling Hall, Norfolk and also a member of the Blakeney Craft Guild, taking part in the annual month long event in July on the north Norfolk coast.
