John Hogan

candlesticks by John Hogan

John Hogan is an artist blacksmith specialising in decorative hand forged metal work using traditional blacksmithing techniques.

John believes in the importance of retaining the timeless and elegant qualities of tradition while utilising modern methods and designs.  His determination to encompass art and utility beautifully is reflected in each one of his pieces.

Using forged steel, stainless steel, mild steel, wrought iron, copper, brass and bronze, John creates uniquely designed pieces.  His work covers a wide spectrum of functional and artistic products including staircases, gates, intricate interior and exterior furniture pieces along with uniquely sculptured pieces of art.

The inspiration behind John's artwork stems mainly from the landscape that surrounds him in the West of Ireland.  The rugged terrain, the mountains and the sea, all evoke a sense of wilderness that can be identified in his pieces.  Being based close to Killala Bay, he is also inspired by its natural beauty, which clashes with the ferocity of the sea.

"As an artist, my aim is to convey a sense of beauty and timelessness in all my creations. I hope to present an element of nature infused with contemporary style while still maintaining the traditional role of the blacksmith.  I will continue to follow my ambition to create works of art that will inspire all those who see them."
