My Name is John Thompson, I am 36 years old and have been Letter Carving for some 14 years, I studied letter form and Calligraphy after doing a apprenticeship in stone masonry. I specialise in Hand Carved Memorials, Sundials, & Architectural Carving.
I carve into Welsh Slate, Limestone's such as York Stone, Portland Stone or even carve directly onto buildings and architecture.
 
I take great pride in trying to restore the standard of Craftsmanship which is in quite a sorry state in these modern and rushed times. I have a small company called The Carving Studio which is based in a 13th Century market town call Shefford, Bedfordshire.
 
It is an old farm barn which has beautiful views and gives me Inspiration and the concentration I need to carry out the fine work I produce.
 
Hand Carved Lettering and relief carving cannot be matched by the machine made alternatives.
