I am a designer-maker creating windows which explore the fluidity, colour and vitality of the glass itself. I paint and etch on glass, sometimes include printmaking techniques and fused glass elements of abstract or semi-realistic natural forms in my work. My projects have used the power and versatility of contemporary design in leaded glass to create a mood of quiet contemplation for a sacred space; to energise and unify commercial interiors; and to provoke enquiry and stimulate learning in an educational environment.
The variety of commissions over the past 25 years have included windows for a private chapel in Dorset on a Saxon theme; a large 6m x 6m Main East Window of a soaring eagle for St John’s School Chapel in Surrey; a series of seven lancet windows for St Colman’s Church in Hampshire; ‘four seasons’ roof-lights for the London Columbarium for the Corporation of London; windows of military crests for the Royal Naval and Royal Air Force Police for their training HQ chapel; windows in medieval heraldic style for an Elizabethen manor house in Hertfordshire; windows for school halls, entrances, receptions and chapels and a library and prayer room. I also enjoy working on windows for a more intimate domestic setting.
The 1993 memorial window to celebrated naturalist Gilbert White at Selborne was described by Simon Jenkins, author of ‘England’s Thousand Best Churches’ – “It is among the loveliest of 20th century windows”.
I am an elected Associate of the British Society of Master Glass Painters.
