Historical Shoes NP
Our shoemaker journey started 10 years ago in Slovakia when Juraj made his first pair of shoes using his grandfather’s tools, which he found in the attic dusty and forgotten.
This treasure contained grandfather’s trade mark with his initials (NP) which we use now in our name “Historical shoes NP” and put on every shoe we make as a symbol of carrying on the tradition.

We are both self taught and living in England has opened the door to many sources for studying shoemaking techniques and historical design.
All of our shoes are supported by extant finds held in museum collections worldwide, as well as from Manuscript finds, paintings and exposed art pieces in sacred buildings.

To assure their authenticity we precisely pick all materials such as natural vegetable tanned leather for uppers and oak bark tanned leather for soles, hand stitched together with linen thread.

You can meet us and see our work at living history events in England and across Europe where we regularly re-enact a 15th century shoemaker’s workshop with all the details - tools, furniture, costumes and of course historical shoes ranging from Roman, medieval and 18th century designs.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 57 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
