Kate Smith

Kate Smith runs an established jewellery design business, situated in the heart of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.
 
Following on from her time spent working with numerous designers in London, she moved back to the midlands to take inspiration from her countryside surroundings of Shropshire.
 
Contemporary jewellery has resulted from detailed drawings of natural objects. These are then abstracted into metal to create wide ranging pieces from bracelets to brooches.
 
The diverse collections bring together Kates' fascination with nature. The latest being the Ariana Collection, showing leaf motifs on dramatic backgrounds of oxidised silver (show here, to the right).
 
A variety of techniques are used across the collections, including planishing, detailed drilling, acid etching and gold plating.
