Lesley Anne Greene

Lesley has a degree in 3DDesign/Ceramics and a background in teaching, she makes unique figurative ceramics using traditional handbuilding techniques.
Creating, exhibiting and selling her current work since1993, she has  developed a broad repertoire of subject matter.

Some of Lesley's pieces are inspired by a lifelong interest in Ancient Egyptian Art.
Humour, attitude and expression are all qualities inherent in every piece.
Using commercially prepared clay Lesley produces her forms using pinching and coiling techniques.External surfaces are modelled with fingers and simple tools.
The insides of vessels are left unmodelled to reveal the 'skeleton' like coil structure.
Texture and detail are highlighted using a wash of coloured slip (liquid clay) and or metallic oxide.

Occasionally glazes are used and where appropriate a sense of opulence is added with the use of gold lustre. The work is fired up to three times in an electric kiln Scale is from a couple of inches, 'Feelines', up to 26 inches,'Geisha'.
Lesley exhibits her work in galleries and craft outlets throughout the U.K and also creates work to commission.

Subjects to date include:
Cat, Birds, Goldfish, Camel, Donkey, Panda, Bear, Indian Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Leopard, Horse, Spaniel, Scarab, Red Squirrel.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 86 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
