  Selected Makers

Linda Finch

My ceramic vessels explore the diversity of pattern that can be contained within a form.   I experiment with different coloured clays which, when thrown together, create unique patterns within the material.  The vessels are one-off display pieces, although they can be used functionally depending on the finish.

I graduated in 2005 from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics, majoring in Ceramics, with Wood as a Minor.  In 2006 I was selected to showcase work at Setting Out 06. This prestigious exhibition is organised each year by the Craft Potters’ Association to launch new graduates in their ceramic careers and is held at the Contemporary Ceramic Gallery in London. I was 1 of 24 ceramicists to exhibit work.

As a result of my interest in pattern, I have developed a range of different tile designs for display as 'wall art' or for use in more traditional ways.  The tiles are hand built and textured using a variety of materials and then fired to mid-range Stoneware. They can be hung from the wall or permanently fixed.

I also make ‘Bird Chatter’ pottery.  The inspiration came from a series of quick sketches of birds in the garden, each piece features birds on a washing line.  The designs are hand drawn into the clay and later fired with underglaze colours.  These are food safe. This theme is being developed into a range of tableware.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 7 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
