Liz Clay

Liz Clay is a luxury, textile design business, specialising in beautiful hand felted textiles for the home and to wear.

Established in 2001, the collections of exclusive designs have gained recognition worldwide, winning UKTI export awards and Crafts Council funding including a Development Award (2004) and selected maker for Injection (2014).

Studio-based practice is at the heart of Liz’s business maintaining a hands on approach with the emphasis on bespoke commissioning service and one off contemporary designs. Her knowledge of materials, technique and process has enabled her to create beautiful fabrics sought after by fashion houses in Paris and London.

Accessories include the Boa collection, hand pleated shawls, collars and bags. The acoustic inspired interior products proudly reflect her love of British wool; responding instinctively to its tactile potential is something Liz cares passionately about.

Keenly attracted to tradition and a love of craft skills, her philosophy is always to maintain simplicity and clarity with materials whilst mindful of intent. This softly, seductive approach underpins her thought process, personality, work ethic and creative output.

Newest collections of interior textiles and bespoke accessories are showcased at selected galleries and Liz’s online shop.

An experienced teacher, Liz writes and lectures worldwide, her book Nuno Felt is now in its third print. Liz exhibits as a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. Elected chairman of the International Feltmakers Association from 2009-2012, she is currently a director of Somerset Art Works working to support and promote excellence in craft and the art of felt making to a wide audience.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 155 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
