Mary Ann Simmons

Silver has been my material of choice for over 20 years. I use it for its beauty and intrinsic properties in combination with other materials such as glass and wood. Over the years I have designed and made a full range of silverware using hand and machine techniques such as scoring and folding, hammering, spinning, etching and waterjet cutting.

I specialise in box making because of the challenge of working with metal sheet. Boxes are a direct expression of both interior and exterior. The personal has often influenced my ideas along with the formality and precision of the making process.
