Naomi Renouf

Naomi is a textile artist, who lives and works in Jersey, Channel Islands. She sometimes works with textiles alone but at other times combines them with other media. Acrylic paint is one of her favourite materials and it is often combined with textiles in her pictures.

In recent years her textiles work has developed, mainly along two different stylistic routes. The first of these is seascapes and landscapes which are very influenced by her painting background. The second is a series of work which has developed from pictures made over several years using her own handmade paper as a background.  The size became so restrictive that she developed a way of producing a similar effect on a much larger scale using textiles and acrylic paint. These pieces are more abstract.
 
Although much of her inspiration comes from the countryside around Jersey and from the sea and the sky, some of her work is inspired by places she travels to. She loves the tactile qualities of the materials she uses and finds inspiration in the materials themselves. This leads to a spontaneous way of working which includes random as well as planned elements in the finished work. She finds this an interesting way of working because there is rarely a totally predictable result.

Naomi exhibits work regularly in Jersey. She has also exhibited work in the U.K. and U.S.A. and her work has featured in a number of publications including Workbox Magazine, Quiltwow and Textiles Now by Drusilla Cole.
