Nina Bulley

A stunning range of hand-made glass jewellery, made by Nina Bulley who lives on the Isle of Wight.  The glass used is called Dichroic Glass which was invented by NASA for use in the space industry.  Dichroic coatings transmit certain wavelengths of light, while reflecting others, thus creating an interference effect similar to the mesmerising iridescence observed in dragonfly wings.

The jewellery is fired in a high temperature kiln, where the glass reacts with the oxides, creating a luminous and abstract effect.  Each piece of jewellery is individually made and fired a number of times to achieve the finished result and there is always an element of unpredictability with every item.  For Nina, each firing is a highly controlled voyage of discovery and, of course, every piece is unique.

Nina started making jewellery after working with glass for some years and was inspired by the brilliant colours of Dichroic Glass to make into her vibrant abstract designs.  Her range now includes Dichroic Glass set into Sterling Silver.

Winner of 2003 British Craft Trade Fair Newcomer Award.
