Pauline Zelinski

Jugs by Pauline Zelinski

I trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design graduating in 1970. I now live in the West Country where I work from my studio in Exeter. All of my pieces are individually made from white earthenware clay and are then decorated by hand painted underglaze colours before being biscuit fired. Careful mixing and building up of the colours produce vibrant tones and hues, and the final glazing and firing reveal the full intensity of the painting.

I make press moulds for the various platter shapes and all the other pieces are either thrown or slab–built. Ideas spring from forms and patterns in nature and inspiration is found in artists such as Matisse, Klee and the French artist Seguy for his richness of colour and design
