Textiles by Rachel Stowe
I began my training in Fashion and Textiles at Hereford College of Art and Design where I had my first insight into the process of Dyeing and Printing.
On leaving Hereford I branched out and set up my own business in 1997 called Reactive Designs which was based in a studio within The Jinney Ring Craft Centre. Several years later whilst developing my work further I gained a Masters in Textiles at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, from here I also went on to complete a Certificate in Further Education which enabled me to lecture in Textiles.
I have since started up my studio again I produce Scarves, Ties, Bags and Purses every item is Individual and exclusive. My work is inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt and Wassily Kandinsky, more recently geometric form.
The Process of Design is completed in my rural studio by Hand Painting, Dyeing, and printing onto fabric. I use a number of techniques including screen printing and block printing, Incorporating Dye reduction and Devore. I mostly use Silk Velvet viscose and Silk Satin in various weights.
I exhibit through craft fairs and galleries throughout the UK.
I am an experienced tutor and lecturer and able to offer courses.
Please e-mail me if you would like information on forthcoming shows or to be put on my mailing list.
