Ruth Bridges

work by Ruth Bridges

Ruth graduated from the University of Brighton's Three-Dimensional Crafts BA(Hons) in 1998. Staying in Brighton, she then trained with an established contemporary jeweller for six years before starting her own business.

Working mainly in silver and eighteen-carat gold, Ruth uses a variety of techniques to make each of her collections including combining different metals, pressing forms from sheet and hand-piercing details.  Her silver Lode and Flint collections feature a line of contrasting 18ct white or yellow gold and the exquisite detail of tiny diamonds. Pierced features tactile, hollow forms with delicate hand-pierced detail and is sometimes oxidised on the inside to emphasise the patterns.  The use of vibrant semi-precious stones in Talus brings colour to her work.

Ruth draws inspiration from sources including rock formations and pebbles smoothed and hollowed by the elements, map symbols and mathematical drawings. The beautiful shapes created by nature contribute to the smooth, tactile forms that recur in her jewellery.

Ruth designs and makes her jewellery in her workshop in Hove and exhibits and sells it in shops, galleries and at retail and trade exhibitions across the UK. A list of current stockists and current and forthcoming exhibitions can be found on her website.
