  Selected Makers

Sarah Allen

I am a hand weaver who graduated from Nottingham Trent University with an honours degree in Textile Design, specialising in woven textiles. My distinctive collections of hand woven textiles combine my love of traditional processes with contemporary design.

I work on a manual dobby loom, which means I use my feet to work the treddle to lift the shafts, and my hands to move the pattern on for each row, throw the shuttle and beat the cloth. I find the act of weaving very rhythmic and I love the physical-ness of the process and feel everything I produce is a product of my mind, body and ‘creative soul’.

I use the inherent properties of natural yarns and carefully considered weave structures to create covetable accessories. I enjoy exploring exciting colour combinations and draw my inspiration from bold architectural shapes.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 65 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
