  Selected Makers

Sarah Waters

Sarah is a felt maker and textile artist with a passion for working with natural fibres. Her recent work has focused on biological innovations in textile development and the future of fabric production. She is concerned with the care of the environment and where possible uses local raw fleeces for felting. As part of a growing collaboration between artists and scientists Sarah is showing that, by pushing the boundaries, they can help forge the future of textile, design and health development.

Sarah lives and works from her studio in the New Forest, Hampshire. Her work is often functional with a design element that focuses on strong geometric patterns. Each piece is seen as a unique work of art. Her work can be seen at galleries throughout Southern England and has exhibited at selected shows in the UK and abroad, including MADE Brighton.

Sarah’s approach to felt making is very tactile and hands on and she teaches throughout the year to all ages and abilities. This includes her own small workshops in her local village hall of Woodgreen, to regular sessions in schools and one off communtiy projects to also teaching on the cruise ships. Sarah has recently written several articles for magazines and online publications.

Sarah is a member of the International Feltmakers Association and a Licentiate Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 86 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
