Sue McLearie

Based in Hampshire, Sue McLearie is a professional contemporary artist creating original, unique artworks for sale and by commission for clients throughout the UK and overseas.

'My sculptural work is a departure from my many years of painting, although my inspiration still comes from the same place, the Natural World.
I hope that my love of animals is apparent in each piece that I make, large and small.

The wire sculptures have evolved over time and now have three 'skins' of paper woven through a wire armature for strength. They are then finished with a final 'skin' of clay and carefully prepared coloured, printed papers (or handmade paper).
Relevant subtle text is added to a piece if finished with printed papers, e.g. 'melting ice', Global warming' etc. on the Polar Bear.
It is a labour intensive technique, partly due to sourcing and ripping the small pieces of colour/text from the pages of discarded magazines rather than cutting, to avoid 'hard' edges.

The sculptures are not painted, the colours are built up with layers of torn paper with any 'wet/moist' areas varnished.

Each creature is unique, even a commission of the same animal can never be the same, but they always make me smile.
I hope they make you smile too.’

Do you have a favourite creature you would like sculpted?  All creatures considered.
Commissions welcomed, please allow 28 days for your bespoke sculpture to be created.
