Heavy Horse in Walnut by Sue Navin

I am a woodcarver who specialises in carving horses.  I try to capture something of the presence and movement of the animal and also to make the most of the beauty and grain of the timber.  I use mainly English hardwoods, most recently walnut, apple, pear, cherry, oak, lacewood and sycamore. I work with chisel and mallet leaving the surface of the carvings with a tooled finish and then finishing with oil or beeswax.

I have exhibited with the Society of Equestrian Artists in their London exhibitions at Christies and at the Mall Gallery.
