Sue Parry

Sue Parry is a designer-maker of contemporary glass; she grew up in the West Country, on the edge of Dartmoor.  Her love of that rugged landscape led her to do a degree in Geology, and to have a life long fascination for rocks and sea. Sue predominately sand-casts glass; however she employs many other techniques in her exploration of the environment.

‘Our environment is ever changing, due not only to the forces of nature, but also our interaction with it. For me the textures found in nature and our man made environment and the interaction of the arising contrasts play a key part in my work. In particular how the powers of nature have created these textures, and the corresponding relationships’

Sue creates flowing forms which echo the material itself but are inspired from an early fascination with geological formations, and the beauty of the world we live in. Sue’s work is distinctive in the contrast between highly polished faces, and organic textures, applying layered coloured glass to create sensual, abstract forms.
 
Sue studied at the International Glass Centre in the West Midlands and has had a studio at the Ruskin Glass Centre since 2005.   She has exhibited throughout the UK, in Europe, America and the Middle East.  In 2009, she received a scholarship one month residency at the Eisch Atelier, Frauenau, Germany.  This culminated with a Solo exhibition ‘Passion and Fire’.
