After taking an early retirement from working as a senior officer in the Bermuda Government, I fulfilled a lifelong dream of a second career (childhood!?) in arts and crafts. I moved to Scotland, obtained an HND in Graphics & Illustration and did further studies which cemented my desire to work in ceramics. In 2005 my studio was set up, the kiln installed and I’ve never looked back!
My main work has been in coiled vessels, each being decorated using natural oxides and designs influenced by the swirls and eddies of the sea. I’ve also been strongly attracted to aboriginal colours and designs which appear in my tiles and assemblage pictures (framed and grouted). Recently an interest in the combination of wire and clay has resulted in whimsical hanging pieces, “puff balls” and mini character animals. My work is either earthenware or stoneware fired, depending upon the ultimate effect and/or use.
