Copper journals

Phoenix Copper Art
Inspired by the Victorian arts and craft movement I discovered the classical art of Repoussé a dozen or so years ago in a museum in Glasgow.  At first I was content to learn the craft by embossing small panels used by many as decorative art pieces, however a lifelong stationery fetish and a desire to turn the craft into something functional ("Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful" ...William Morris) however led to creating embossed copper and pewter journals and albums.

Someone once said it takes “10,000 hours to get really good at something” and I figure that’s about right. After serving my self-imposed apprenticeship, I confidently began accepting commissions, the pinnacle for any commercial artist I believe.

I attend many specialist events throughout the year ranging from fine art and design shows to the more self-indulgent multi media conventions where I help others realise something tangible about their own passions through bespoke, personalised books and wall art.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 57 days we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
