Zoe Davidson

Based in Stromness, Orkney, Zoe shares with you her love for the sea and the coastlines of her island home - from the curling waves, to patterns in ancient, weatherworn rocks. Zoe specialises in an unusual silversmithing technique called 'fold-forming', resulting in dynamic, origami-like wearable forms. She incorporates beautiful, uniquely set gemstones into her work, reflecting the natural shapes she sees on the Orkney shoreline. Zoe does not follow trends and instead tries to create new and unusual works of wearable art.

Zoe graduated in Jewellery & Metal Design from Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2013. Following her graduation, Zoe travelled and undertook internships with Amsterdam fashion designer, Iris Van Herpen, and Plockton-based jeweller, Gilly Langton, before working with two Orkney based jewellery companies. She launched her own business in 2016 with the help of awards from Business Gateway and The Prince’s Trust, and a local Visual Arts and Development grant.

Brought up in Brunei Darussalam, in South-East Asia, Zoe spent most of her weekends in the sea, scuba diving and snorkeling. Moving to Orkney might have been a dramatic change after Brunei's tropical climate, but being near the sea is where Zoe feels most at home and it’s this oceanic connection that’s most strongly reflected throughout her sculptural work.
