Alex Yule

Alex draws inspiration from her surrounding environment.  She spent her childhood in the British countryside, inheriting her father's interest in wild flowers and love of beach-combing rocky coastlines. From a young age she has expressed her creative ideas into 3D forms leading her to seek a career that would utilize these skills.  After training in Display Design, Alex worked for a company building bespoke props and window schemes for stores such as Harvey Nichols.  She then went on to pursue a career in architectural model making.  Alongside this 12 year career, Alex was inspired to explore her underlying ambition to be a jeweller, so enrolled on a jewellery course at City Lit and later at Sir John Cass where she learned the skills of working with precious metals. It quickly became a passion and she continued to develop her proficiency in fine jewellery making. These former influences are reflected in her jewellery "an architectural style softened by a love of natural forms.”

In 2011, Alex joined ‘Flux Studios’, a shared specialist jewellery studio.
She also co-teaches on jewellery classes at Flux, sharing her knowledge and technical skills. There is craftsmanship, honesty, and purity of organic proximity in Alex’s work. There is no need to explain it to people or crowd it with other things. You can simply wear it and let it speak for itself.

Alex works to commission and has a range of more accessible collections which she sells direct to clients and through selected stockists, events and exhibitions.  You can keep up to date with Alex’s upcoming events via her website.

Alex is a member of the British Jewellers Association and Craft Central.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

After very many years of craft&design we've decided that we'd like to retire and so in 1 day we will close the craft&design website, including craft&design Online and the craft&design Selected Makers and Craft and Design Month websites. We've had a brilliant 35 years and would like to thank all our readers, advertisers, writers, contributors and website visitors for their support throughout that time. Our very best wishes to you all for the future - Angie and Paul.
