In my work as a textile designer (graduate of Leeds University 1990), I carry out a small amount of freelance design for industry - designing predominantly woven textiles for both apparel and furnishing fabrics.
My main focus, though, is on designing and producing ranges of handwoven scarves and stoles. I use a vast array of different yarns from all over the world, but many are sourced from the some of the high quality Italian
spinners.
Styles vary from gossamer-fine sheer fabrics in merino lambswool, silk, viscose and cotton for spring/summer to cosier wools, alpaca and a variety of blends for the autumn/winter period.
Colours span neutrals and subtle pastel shades through rich autumn colourings right through to bright funky acidics and sparkles...colours and styles for every age group and every walk of life.
Since demand for my scarves has increased over recent years, I employ commission handweavers to carry out much of the work, as it would be impossible to produce every piece single-handedly.
I currently do not have my own outlet, but wholesale my work to galleries, gift shops, boutiques and department stores world-wide. Approximately two-thirds of my work is exported.
All my scarves are handmade and production runs are kept small with new lines being introduced several times each year to retain the element of exclusivity.
I personally handweave commissions and special one-off pieces.
