From her studio in rural Hampshire Robyn hand-carves stone, marble and slate.

Specialising in individually designed lettering and low relief carving, commissions include memorials, headstones, gravestones, plaques, monuments & public inscriptions. A traditionally trained stonemason, Robyn went on to study the art of letter-cutting with the late David Kindersley before establishing her own studio in 2006.

Robyn works closely with each client ensuring their commission is unique. “I find this way of working deeply satisfying, helping the client through the emotively charged experience of creating a memorial is a special privilege. It is my pleasure to help people realize their vision, to make their concept three dimensional; set in stone”.

“I enjoy carving stone, working with the very bones of the earth. There is something primitive yet refined in this ancient craft. Having always been drawn to history, old buildings & churches, something of the timeless quality of stonework has held a lifelong fascination for me.”

Letter carving in stone is a precise discipline which requires patience and attention to detail. Each inscription is painstakingly drawn out in pencil and carefully hand-carved by mallet and chisel. No computers or machinery are used to design or create the letters.
